earth induction compass

earth induction compass
A navigation instrument that is dependent on the magnetic flux of the earth cutting across the windings of a flux valve in the aircraft for its directional reference. The output of the flux valve is used in the RMI (radio magnetic indicator) and other types of direction indicators. Also known as an induction compass.
Flux valve. It acts as the heart of the earth’s induction compass.
